Discover the 7 common habits of unfortunate people, and how to avoid them in your life.
# 1. Constantly compare yourself to others
We constantly compare ourselves, that is very normal. But if you are not careful, it can be a huge source of frustration.
Happy people run on their own power. They look and compare, but they know to quickly put it in perspective.
- Everyone has his own strengths and weaknesses.
- Every person has his own unique life style.
- Everyone has other priorities.
- Every human being is willing to bring other sacrifices to achieve results.
So yes – you can compare. But realize that there is only one race – and that’s the race with yourself. To get better than you were yesterday. Not to be better than others. Because if you walk through life like this, you’ll always find reasons to think you’re not good enough.
# 2. Make your life unnecessarily complicated
Is your life chaotic? Then you are not alone. Many people feel overwhelmed and stressed because they have to keep juggling so many balls high in the air.
But what most people do not realize is this: you are the one who makes your life so complicated. You do it yourself. These are your choices, your priorities.
That seems confrontational, but it is also liberating. Because this means you also have the opportunity to make other choices that will make your life more peaceful and effective.
# 3. Living in your head
Stress arises when you constantly have your thoughts in the future. For example, some people constantly think, muse and worry about what can happen.
Feelings of depression arise when your thoughts are often in the past. If you think about how it used to be, and know that time will never come back.
You find peace in the here and now. By exercising mindfulness, single-tasking and meditation, you can keep your attention more in the moment. And with that you will be happier, calmer and more resilient.
# 4. Deal with people who drain your energy
If you mix with people who drain your energy every day, you become negative, tired and unhappy. You want to surround yourself with people who give you energy. People who give you inspiration, strength and positivity.
The people in your life have a lot of influence on you. So be aware which people pull you down and which people push you up. And spend more time with the second category.
# 5. Doing everything perfectly
Imagine: Every day, you’re in the yard with your arms stretched out because you want to learn to fly.
That makes no sense. You spend hours of your time on a goal that you will not be able to achieve. That’s madness, right?
Yet, this is exactly what perfectionists do. They stop all their energy for a goal that cannot be achieved. As a result, they lose a lot of power and get little done.
Perfectionism does not help you fly, it keeps you on the ground. You won’t fly even when you try harder to float with your arms. So you won’t be perfect when you are hardly at your best. No – If you want to fly you get in an airplane. And if you want to be happy, you accept that it is acceptable enough.
# 6. Focus on what’s bad in your life
Everything that gives you attention is growing. Imagine that this is really true (and I think it’s really true) – what do you do when you are whining and complaining about things that are wrong in your life?
Exactly – you help the nasty things grow.
Attention is like plant nutrition. If you focus your attention on a goal, you will achieve it much faster. And if you talk or think about a particular topic, your brain will think about it more and more.
Focus your attention on the things that make you happy. On the things that go well. On the things you can be grateful for.
Imagine what happens when you train your brain to see more of these things. Exactly – your life will be a party!
# 7. Feed your ego and crawl into the victim’s role
The deeper you fall into your ego and the victim’s role, the more difficult your life becomes. Not only because it seems like the whole world is against you – but also because people will automatically hate you.
Make your ego smaller, not bigger. And take responsibility for your happiness, do not shift it from you.
You are the only one who can make you happy. So do that. Do not throw your hands in the air. Do not hope for pity. Do not keep endless whining about all those nasty things you cannot do. Do not talk about yourself constantly and do not let everything and everyone run your problems.
No. Take responsibility for yourself. Fix your life. Crawl out of your ego and realize that the world is not about you.
