1. Hold your focus

Once the flywheel is running, and once maintaining your success demands less attention, you can look further at other projects. But start with laser-sharp focus.
- Do not start new projects constantly because you have the idea that what you do is not working
- Be patient and keep consistent toward your goal
- Know that to move something takes the most energy. Once a cruise ship sails, it costs less energy to keep him moving.
Starting over is tempting because it’s easy. In the beginning, you always get a lot of results, but you will inevitably meet obstacles. This is the time when you can distinguish yourself, because most people stop here.
Work your goal with focus and attention every day. That way, you build momentum and increase your chances of success.
2. Remember that success is more than money
Success is automatically linked to wealth, popularity and status. And while these things will come after you become successful, there are more things in life.
- A high income person does not automatically have a successful relationship, a good family life or good health
- Someone who is always successful in love does not automatically get satisfaction from her work
- If you have to spend less money than you would like, it does not say that your life is not a success.
Being successful simply means achieving desired results. It means you work towards your goals and progress ahead.
It is best not to lose yourself in the external results (status, money, popularity). If you focus on internal motivations, like getting better, contributing more and developing yourself, you often experience more satisfaction and fun.
Ultimately, that is one of the most important criteria of a successful life: Do you feel happy and satisfied, or do you feel dissatisfied and not good enough?
There is nothing wrong with money, popularity and status. They are wonderful things to have and to experience. But these are not the only things that are worth it. There is more in life.
Investigate how others have done what you want to do. Learn from their successes and their mistakes. And know that you can shape the reality by taking action, not by sitting on the couch and watching Netflix. Check the characteristics of successful people.

Pfff…what a misery
Work is not always fun, and that’s a problem. If there’s one thing we’re looking for, it’s fun.
We have learned that things sometimes are not fun. Sometimes you have to do annoying things to build a good life. Sometimes you have to remind yourself to bite and go with that banana.
But what if that does not work? What if you just do not get to be productive? If you show postponement and you feel worthless and stressed?
Simple – then make your job more fun. Here the steps to avoid procrastination.

Yes, make it fun! Or at least less annoying. Make sure you do your work with more pleasure and you will procrastinate less.
I do not know how it went with you, but in high school, I almost always left my homework until the last moment. I considered homework as an attack on my personal freedom.
If I started to write with great haste and reluctance, I often came to a strange conclusion: “This is really fun, so why did not I start it earlier?”
Annoying work is not always as annoying as it seems. Work is neutral. It’s your mind about the work that makes it annoying.
There are many things that you can do to make your annoying work more fun. Let’s see.
3. Better plans
Okay, I know what you think. If one thing is more annoying than doing annoying work, it’s planning.
But stay with me. I can explain it.
Plans help you to get hold of the annoying task. Often, we find a job annoying because we lost the overview. We get overwhelmed or we overestimate the task.
By taking time to plan, you can get out of here. You get the overview back, which makes it possible to estimate the work more realistically.
I sometimes procrastinate tasks that literally take only five minutes to complete. That makes no sense. I procrastinate because I find the task too vague. But one minute of planning can solve that problem.
When it comes to answering a troublesome email, it can help to put on paper what I want to achieve so I know what to say.
With larger tasks, a few minutes of planning can help. Get away from your screen, grab a piece of paper and create more overview.
4. Challenge yourself
A little challenge will make your job more fun. Even a boring task becomes interesting if you try to do it better, faster, more efficiently, more surprisingly or with more attention.
For example, set a timer, and tell yourself that within a half hour, you will reach a certain milestone, such as an empty mailbox, a minimum number of words, a number of submitted applications, etc.
I often work with short sprints that make my work more fun and more efficient.
5. Make it a game
Continuing on the above tip, you can decide to add a game element. This is also a fun way to add more fun to other workdays with other bored colleagues.
Inspiration for game rules:
1. For each completed task, give yourself credits.
2. A major, important task gives you 10 credits.
3. A small task, like answered mail, gives you 1 credit.
4. It is your goal to collect 25 credits in one day.
6. Reward yourself
If credits do not motivate you enough, what do you think of a more tangible reward? For example:
- After completing this task, I can have a cup of tea
- If I finish this list today, I can go to the cinema tonight
- If I complete this project, I can book a night away.
You can reward yourself in small and big ways. It works best if you do small rewards for everyday tasks and great rewards for great accomplishments.
You can also choose to motivate yourself by imposing penalties. I do not recommend it, but it can work. For example:
- If I do not achieve this goal, I must clean my mother-in-law’s house on Saturday.
- If I do not clear my mailbox within half an hour, I cannot get a tea.
- If this project is not finished in time, I cannot go skiing this year.
It’s a bit intense, but depending on your motivation level, it can be the only way to get into action.
7. Use it as a mindfulness exercise
Work is just a series of actions you perform. If you look at it moment to moment, you can wonder if it is actually a nasty job.
For example, if your job involves moving, but you are against moving things, you may ask yourself why.
- Is it so bad to pick up things and put it in a box? Not really.
- Is it bad to lift a box and move it? This should not be a problem.
- Is it such a disaster to say a few words to the right people so that everything runs smoothly? Hmmm, no.
Is the whole project in your mind much bigger and more complex than it really is? Yep.
Lastly, I had to copy written texts from one system to another, but I really hated it. But why?
I realized that the work was boring.
Then I realized that this physical work was painless. I just had to copy and paste, no more. But my thoughts are what made it unpleasant and annoying.
I decided to use the work as a mindfulness exercise to get my attention in the moment and to simply enjoy the action.
With these thoughts, I effortlessly flew through the task.
